Window Vent

(Master project TU Delft, in cooperation with Alusta)

Existing houses built in the 70’s have a natural ventilation system. In this system, fresh air from outside is supplied by cracks in the construction of the house and typically by small (flap) windows in the top of a window frame. Usually, the air is extracted from the house mechanically by means of extractors in the so called ‘wet rooms’ (toilet, bathroom and kitchen).

Energy saving in existing house constructions will become very important in the coming years. Among other things, the European Energy Certificate will result in a better thermal isolation of houses. At the same time the need for good (energy-saving) ventilation systems will rise to prevent isolation from having a negative effect on the indoor air quality. Preferably this ventilation can be installed with a minimum of architectural consequences.

Window Vent replaces old flap windows of any size and can be mounted in the existing windowframe by the home owners themselves. Window Vent is a flap window with an integrated self regulating air inlet.

Window Vent is burglary proof, has a high air capacity and facilitates healthy living. With a rod the user controls both the inlet and the window.
